I fully agree that 755Es need some sparkle atop, but I'd go with a pair of Pioneer horn tweets as a poor man's 3000 substitute.

As second choice, I'd opt for 2" Peerless paper cone tweets with the aluminum dustcap.

A friend of mine got heavily into scavenged 8 track in the 90s and manged to find all sorts of highbrow jazz on 8 track. He even had Sun Ra 8 tracks. Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own two eyeballs.

Are you talking about the little multi-cells? I have a pair that I pulled from a pair of CS-88a, that had been damaged. I haven't used them for anything, but I keep them becasue they remind me of Altec multicells, but mini-sized.

The ones I had looked like this, with little built in fold down stands:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMdL8yO4w2g

They were not as airy as the ALTEC 3000s but they were not bad at all.

The same tweets come with Calrad, Monarch, and Olson labels I think.

Do a google search and image search on Pioneer PT-2, PT-3, PT-6, etc

There were lots of versions and variants, round square, cells, no cells...some of which showed up in later Pioneer multi way box speakers. I can't claim to be a Pioneer expert but there are some specialists out there. Bowtie427 probably remembers every model number.

The early Pioneer stuff I've run across is usually quite decent and had some engineering and craftsmanship behind it.

Have you been snooping in my stash Joe?

Pretty sure those were actually made by Coral.

Coral H-1, H-2, or H-3 w/ 1 inch aluminum dome, edgewound aluminum ribbon VC.

I run a pair of H-1 with these Oaktron 12 inch extended range bastardized into a pair if Aztec Gauguin III cabinets, someday i'll finish them properly, grills and all and add just a tad of pad on the tweeters................... they're worthy.

Here's some late 3B's(pic scavanged from the web) with no back covers and hex nut terminals, looks like they were cutting costs any way possible.

Don't even have to, Bro.... You have given us enough info to make a reasonable educated guess!

Hard to say who made what. Here's a pic of PT-2s (with insane price tag) that have "Pioneer" molded into the horn.

    FS:/Pioneer PT-2 Horn Tweeter

I believe you are correct about some of the re-brand Olsons. etc being made by Coral, though, now that I think about it...but some were definitely Pioneer.

The situation reminds me of the 50s-60s Jensen look-alikes from Magnavox, Wilder, etc. Seems a lot of parts were coming from jobber catalogs or one OEM was happily selling to the other. Why reinvent the wheel?

From my experience, much of this older JA stuff is worth a shot at the right price....better than the overrated and overpriced EV and Jensens consumer tweets to be sure. if I never hear another one of those scratchy EV T-35s, that's cool with me!

Interestingly, you can make connections between most of the big names in audio roots if you trace them back far enough.

Les paints a pretty clear picture in just a few minutes: Music legend Les Paul & his relationship with McIntosh - YouTube

Always enjoy hearing him refer to his beloved "All-tech" 604, and the "finest amplifiers in the world".
